What is Dust? What are its sources?

Dust mainly refers to various organic & inorganic particles which gets collected in your home. Majority of dust in home consists of skin cells and it gets unavoidable to stop the source of dust. Dust can also be generated from plants, garbage, heavy metals like lead, paint, pesticides, bacteria, cigarette smoke, fibers from fabrics, sand/soil, building construction, mosquito coils, stove, floor & bathroom cleaners, vapors from cooking, wood polish, air freshners, foot wear dust, cockroaches, rat urine & faeces, fungi, cob webs etc.

Why you should keep your home Dust free?


  • Dust can contain toxic and dust mites which can make you sneeze and make air unfit for breathing. Dust mites are microscopic insects usually found in dust.

  • Dust is also unhealthy for your skin and can cause skin problems like acne, itching, allergies.

  • Keeping your home dust free gets even important if you have children at home who are at greater risk of getting affected because they are at developing stage. Children usually intake dust via their hands & air.

  • People with heart or lungs disease, older people are at higher risk than young people.

  • Both long-term and short-term exposure to dust can be harmful leading to various problems in skin, lungs etc.

How to Keep your Home Dust-Free?

1. Bedroom

Dust accompany us to bed, and its bad for your skin to sleep in dust. So make sure you wash your pillow covers (atleast twice per week), bedsheets (atleast once per week) & other bedding material in hot water & change them frequently.

Also make sure you clean following :

  • Curtains


2. Bathroom

>Keep following dry and clean :

  • Bathroom Floor

  • Shower curtains : Shake them well after shower to keep them dry.

  • Change your filters of air conditioner, vacuum etc. frequently.

  • Carpet & Rugs > Do not stand on carpets/rugs with shoes which you used outside home as carpets/rugs can trap dust easily. So its better remove your shoes at the door itself. You can even avoid keeping carpets/rugs at home.

  • Walls > Choose paints with lower lead content.

What more you can do?

  • Wash your face daily. Follow skin care routine including cleansing, exfoliation, face packs, etc.

  • Apply moisturizer and sunscreen daily.

  • Drink lots of water.

  • Do not eat in dust contaminated places.
